Burkhard Becher

Prof. Burkhard Becher is Professor and Chair of the Institute of Experimental Immunology at the University of Zurich. He studied Biology at the University of Cologne (Germany) and completed his doctoral training at McGill University in Canada, where he investigated microglial function in autoimmune neuroinflammation. He subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at Dartmouth Medical School in the United States. Appointed Assistant Professor in Zurich in 2003, he was promoted to Full Professor and Chair in 2008. His research focuses on cytokine-mediated immune regulation in autoimmunity, neuroinflammation, and cancer, particularly IL-12, IL-23, and GM-CSF signalling pathways. He has received numerous national and international awards, is a Highly Cited Researcher since 2018, and was awarded an ERC Advanced Grant in 2019.
