Dr. Kimitoshi Kimura serves as a Program-Specific Junior Associate Professor at Kyoto University, Japan. He completed his Ph.D. program with a focus on multiple sclerosis (MS) at Kyoto University and the National Institute of Neuroscience, Japan. Subsequently, he joined Brigham and Women’s Hospital in the United States, where he initiated research on microglia in the context of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Currently, Dr. Kimura is advancing his research on microglia at Kyoto University to develop novel therapies for severe neurological disorders. Alongside his research, he is actively involved in clinical practice, primarily treating patients with neuroimmunological conditions such as MS, neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD), and myasthenia gravis (MG).

Dr. Kimura has published extensively in leading neurology journals, contributing findings based on research using both human and mouse models. His work has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards from organizations such as the Japanese Society of Neurology, Japanese Society of Neuroimmunology, Japanese Society of Clinical Immunology, Japanese Society for Immunology, Japan Society for Dementia Research, and the Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies (FOCIS).
