Dr. Atsushi Kamiya is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Department of Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He leads a research program exploring molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neurobehavioral outcomes relevant to the psychopathology of psychiatric disorders. With a background in both basic neurobiology and clinical psychiatry, Dr. Kamiya’s current research focuses on investigating how environmental risk factors, such as psychosocial stress, adolescent cannabis use, and surgical stress in conjunction with aging, affect immune and inflammatory processes that contribute to disease psychopathology. The ultimate goal of his research is to develop novel pharmacological interventions for the prevention and treatment of cognitive and depressive phenotypes in neuropsychiatric disorders.
