The Dale McFarlin Lecture—This lecture has been presented in memory of Dr. McFarlin and his numerous contributions to the field of neuroimmunology at each ISNI congress since 1994.
Anne H. Cross, MD is Professor of Neurology and Section Head of MS & Neuroimmunology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis Missouri. A neurologist, she specializes in multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica, and related neurological diseases. She graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and, after residency training in adult neurology, spent several years as a fellow in multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology at the National Institutes of Health and Albert Einstein School of Medicine in New York. Dale McFarlin was her mentor during her post-doctoral research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health and she is extremely honored to give the Dale McFarlin Lecture this year.
Dr. Cross has been on the faculty of Washington University since 1991. Her research interests focus on understanding the mechanisms involved in pathogenesis of inflammation and demyelination in the central nervous system. She is best known for her research on the role of B cells in MS pathology and for helping to develop imaging techniques to understand the disease.
Dr. Cross has received the John Jay Dystel Prize (2019), the National MS Society Scientific Researcher Award, the Dean’s Impact Award at Washington University, the Washington University Faculty Achievement Award, the Marilyn Hilton Innovation Award, and the President’s Achievement Award of Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation.
